Knoxville Center for Autism currently offers many programs developed by dedicated professionals specializing in delivering quality services to children and their families diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum and related disorders. The center offers Psychological evaluations, counseling sessions, speech-language therapy, ABA therapy, social skill groups, and parent support.
Knoxville Center for Autism's licensed psychologist, Dr. Linda Dreke, specializes in psychological evaluations including diagnosis and educational testing. They also offer counseling sessions with a mental health counselor, Alexandra Whitfield, M.S., NCC, LPC-MHSP (temp). Alex meets with children individually to help with developing social skills, school performance, behavioral issues, regulating emotions, and aiding with transitions. Counseling is also able to offer support to siblings, parents, and family members of those with special needs. The Speech-Language Pathologists’, Tamra Bell, M.A., CCC-SLP and Ginny Hurst, M.A. CCC-SLP, offer individual and group sessions while also focusing on parent training. Sara Gilbert, M.S., BCBA, oversees all of KCA’s very individualized ABA services including individual 1-on-1 sessions, social skill groups, parent support, and sibling sessions.
The Lil’ Buds and Big Buds Preschool Readiness Program is overseen by a Licensed Special Education Teacher, Desiree Cook, B.S. This fall they also began to offer an Academic Enrichment program for home schooled children.
Having a center based program allows for all of the professionals at Knoxville Center for Autism to coordinate on a daily basis to best meet each child’s individualized needs. The therapists’ are able to balance the session to meet each child’s 1-on-1, social, and group learning needs. The center is designed specifically to meet the sensory needs of children on the Autism Spectrum. The main goal of the center is to help each child reach his or her full potential, and have fun while doing so!
